On Monday, October 15, we will be providing bus transportation to the National Museum of the United States Air Force to visit the Research and Development Gallery and Presidential Gallery. The bus will depart from the Holiday Inn-Dayton/Fairborn at approximately 12:15pm and depart from the NMUSAF to return to the venue at approximately 2:00pm. These exhibits are open to the general public and may be seen when visiting the main musesum complex. However, because they are located within the boundaries of Wright-Patterson AFB, they are not directly accessible via personally owned vehicles but are instead serviced by a museum shuttle bus. We will be busing as a group directly to these hangers. Due to their location within WPAFB, we will need to provide the museum the first and last names of all U.S. citizens who will be touring these hangers by 10 October 2012. In addition, U.S. citizens will be required to show a current photo ID once we arrive at the museum before accessing the base. For foreign nationals who wish to visit these hangers, we must provide the museum additional information by 1 October 2012. If you are a foreign national and wish to visit these hangers, please email the local coordinator to find out what additional information is required. Foreign nationals will also be required to show current photo ID and their passport.
Those not wishing to see the Presidental and R&D Hangers may be dropped off and picked up at the main museum complex. However, it will be impossible to see anywhere close to the entire museum collection in the limited amount of time we will be there on Monday. Those wishing to see the entire museum are advised to plan on visiting either before or after the Symposium. The museum is open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Admission is free.
There will also be training on the OpenFOAM software being conducted at the Symposium venue during this time for those who will be visiting the museum on another date. Please see the current tutorial schedule here or here for more details.
For questions regarding the museum tour on Monday, please contact the local coordinator.
